FAST SPACE Life Support System – Powered by TERRA
Sustaining human life in space is one of the greatest engineering and biological challenges of our time. FAST Space Corporation has developed the TERRA System — Terrestrial Environmental Recovery & Resource Architecture — a self-contained, modular ecosystem designed to operate in orbit, on the Moon, Mars, and even in the most inhospitable areas on Earth. What makes TERRA revolutionary is its capacity for dual-use: while built for space, it is already field-proven in drought-stricken regions on Earth, providing clean water, breathable air, and nutritious food. TERRA bridges the gap between space-age innovation and humanitarian need.
Water Recycling
Water is life — and in space it is one of the most valuable and mission-critical resources. FAST Space has already proven that water scarcity doesn’t have to be a barrier — on Earth or beyond it. Our TERRA Waste & Water Recovery System is fully operational and field-proven, capable of recycling both grey water (from sinks, showers, and washing) and black water (from toilets and human waste). This system has been successfully deployed for over five years in drought-stricken regions and is now entering the next phase of evolution for off-world use. The upgraded 6-meter modular unit, scalable to support communities of up to 100 individuals, features cold plasma treatment for organic waste breakdown and Ag/TiO?-rGO nanoparticles for medical-grade water purification. Additionally, an add-on module is being developed to extract clean drinking water from Martian ice, removing harmful minerals and pollutants. With this system in place, FAST Space eliminates the need for constant Earth-based resupply, delivering a closed-loop water solution for space missions and humanitarian crises alike.
Oxygen Production
Our TERRA Oxygen Generation subsystem operates through a multi-tiered biological and synthetic approach. The integration of algae and moss-based photobioreactors Central to this, which continuously produce oxygen while absorbing carbon dioxide. This biological oxygen generation is supplemented by advanced rebreather systems that capture and recycle exhaled air, dramatically reducing dependency on external oxygen tanks or resupply missions. To further enhance the system, FAST Space incorporates yellow covalent COF/MOF powders—engineered materials with extremely high porosity and selectivity for CO? capture. This ensures precise atmospheric control inside spacecraft or surface habitats. The entire system is monitored and regulated via real-time biometric feedback through our LumaVive wearable, ensuring optimal oxygenation, pressure balance, and crew safety.
Food Crops
The TERRA System enables sustainable, nutrient-rich food crop growth in space—onboard spacecraft, inside orbiting stations, or within sealed greenhouse habitats on lunar or Martian surfaces. This system is engineered to withstand harsh radiation, temperature fluctuations, and gravity variation, allowing reliable food yields for long-duration missions. We utilize a hybrid agricultural platform combining terrestrial crops like dwarf tomatoes, leafy greens, and herbs with aquatic crops such as spirulina and chlorella algae. These contribute not only to food supply, but also to oxygen regeneration and CO? removal. Our patented SMART Glass shields plants from cosmic radiation while allowing natural sunlight on Mars or the Moon, reducing the energy burden of artificial lighting. Critically, this system is equally viable for use on Earth — especially in arid and drought-affected zones where conventional farming fails.
