FAST Space HABITAT PROTOTYPE — Concept Overview

The image below represents a cutaway concept of a modular, early-stage FAST Space habitat intended for deployment on the surface of planets or moons. It serves as a compact, self-sufficient unit designed to support science operations, crew habitation, and mission command functions in one integrated structure.

Section 1: Observation Deck
The glass-enclosed front section of the habitat functions as the Observation Deck. Positioned at the forward edge of the habitat, this panoramic bay allows for celestial, planetary, and weather-related monitoring, as well as visual navigation support. High-resolution multispectral sensors, solar radiation monitors, and asteroid tracking HUDs can be installed in this section, along with crew-accessible display panels for scientific viewing and environmental situational awareness.

Section 2: Command Deck
Behind the observation deck is the Command Deck, where all core habitat functions, mission telemetry, external communications, life-support oversight, and environmental controls are monitored. Two adjustable command chairs face a bank of HoloHUD interactive panels, capable of integrating with FAST Space’s proprietary satellite intelligence network, FreeFlyer® software, and orbital navigation AI.

Section 3: Laboratory Section
The Laboratory Section lies in the mid-habitat zone. While not fully visible due to the cutaway angle, this area is designed to include compact biosample analysis stations, mineral processing units, and surface scanning terminals. This modular zone allows crews to conduct planetary surface studies, material testing, and water/air quality sampling. Wall-mounted lab equipment and foldaway work surfaces are designed for efficiency in low-gravity or harsh planetary environments.

Section 4: Crew Quarters
The Crew Quarters provide sleeping accommodation for up to four astronauts. On the visible side, dual stacked bunks with integrated storage and privacy screens are shown. The opposing side (cutaway unseen) mirrors this configuration, totaling four beds. The module includes individual environmental controls per bunk, a central communication panel, and personal data terminals for off-shift crew monitoring and private updates.

Section 5: Rear Section – Bathroom & Hygiene Zone
A gyro-based attitude control system The rear section, identifiable by its extended windows, houses the Bathroom and Hygiene Area. This section includes a pressurized toilet, vacuum-assisted waste collection, a full-body hygiene pod, and UV-sanitizing lockers for garments. Future versions will integrate FAST Space’s plasma-based water recovery system and anti-microbial nanocoating surfaces.

Habitat Dimensions & Full Capability Overview
Image for illustration purposes only. The actual FAST Space Habitat is 15 meters long, 4 meters wide, and 4 meters high, offering a total internal floor area of 60 square meters. The version shown omits several key compartments that will be included in final deployment modules:
* Airlock & EVA Chamber: Fully sealed entry/exit unit with dual-compartment airlock, suit docking, and equipment stowage.
* Galley & Recreation Area: Nutrient prep station, atmospheric water generator, crew dining surface, and media interface wall.

Thermal Regulation & Radiation Shielding: Walls infused with Boron Nitride Nanotube and UHMWPE composite for protection against micrometeorites, solar flares, and GCR (Galactic Cosmic Radiation).
